BEHIND THE SCENE

At Team Athey we know firsthand the maximum impact aerial drone photography and video have when it comes to capturing homebuyer's attention. Talk about making a great first impression. According to MLS statistics, homes with aerial images sold 68 percent faster than homes with standard images. That’s because most homeowners start their search online first, and with the explosion of YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok, they’re not just looking in one place anymore.

Let’s be honest. Aerial photography and video used to be considered an expensive endeavor, but thanks to advanced drone technology, it has become a viable alternative in real estate photography. With budgets starting as low as $200 to $250 and going up from there, you can now afford to capture the full overhead picture or video.

Selling not only a house, but a lifestyle to potential buyers. All in one shot.

Imagine capturing footage of not only the home itself, but its surrounding environment, including swimming pools, ponds, and guest houses with just one impressive overall view. Instantly the buyer gets a great first impression of not just the property, but the neighborhood or acreage that surrounds it.

A buyer can see how close the home is situated to a nearby park, walking trails or a nature preserve. The house itself may not be waterfront, but with an aerial view, buyers can see it is within walking distance to a lake. Yes, drone photography makes the difference these days.

And while it is always a good idea to hire a professional photographer to make certain you get sharp, stable footage with good lighting, you can buy a drone and do it yourself. Just make certain to follow all the guidelines, register your drone, and get the required drone operator license to fly it for commercial purposes. Check the FAA website for details. Oh, and get lots of practice. You’re probably going to crash the drone a few times when starting out.

Whether you’re an agent, builder, homeowner or other professional, it’s easy to see how aerial photography and video are having a profound effect on today’s real estate marketing.

Knowing this, it will be interesting to see where, and just how far drones will take us in the future. After all, drone technology is advancing every day, literally changing the way people all over the world view real estate (from the comfort of their home, I might add).
