Now is the Time to List Your Home to Sell!

If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, trying to determine, with everything going on in the world, if now is the right time to list your home for sale—wait no longer. 

The market is moving thanks to historic low mortgage rates. And with a low inventory of homes due to sellers reluctant to put them on the market, don’t be surprised if you get multiple offers due to the overflow of buyers. 

At Team Athey we realize that 2020 has been a most unusual year thanks to worries about the coronavirus pandemic and resulting economic turmoil. In fact, many homeowners and landlords weren’t able to put their properties on the market in the early Spring because of the shut-down caused by the pandemic, which led many to adopt a wait and see attitude. 

Housing construction projects also slowed to a crawl as many projects were put on pause during this time, making for a lower inventory of new homes as well. 

But the time for waiting is over. Now is the time to get back in the real estate market.

As the months have passed, we as a nation have found ways to deal with the pandemic. Homes can be shown safely due to COVID-19 guidelines—which include masks, booties, and hand sanitizer. As a result, buyers that have been hunkering down and sheltering in place are now anxious to get out there and take advantage of the record-low mortgage interest rates. 

Yes, rates under 3% for the first time ever are luring more buyers into the market and letting them stretch higher on what they can pay. Quite simply, lower rates translate to lower monthly mortgage payments which allows sellers to ask, and get, more for their properties. A big plus for both sellers and buyers.

After months of working from home, many buyers are looking for larger homes with big backyards. Others, honestly, are moving out of urban areas to the safety of the suburbs due to the pandemic worries coupled with recent social unrest. Life and work have changed drastically for many recently and we’re seeing that reflected in the real estate market.
